Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that damage the optic nerve, which will impair good vision. The damage is most likely caused by abnormally high pressure in the eye. The condition is more common in adults over the age of 60 and can lead to blindness.
There are often no warning signs with glaucoma as the effect can be gradual until vision impairment increases to an advanced stage. Vision loss due to glaucoma can not be recovered. This makes it so important to have regular eye exams to diagnose this disease at the early stages and begin treatment to slow or prevent further vision loss.
Some signs and symptoms of glaucoma could include:
- Severe Headaches
- Eye Pain
- Blurred Vision
- Patchy blind spots, peripheral vision and central vision
- Halos around lights
- Eye Redness
